The .SE country-code domain was established in 1986 and assigned to Sweden. During the first years after its establishment, the registration procedure was pretty restrictive, so a very small number of domain names were acquired. Persons could secure no more than one domain under .PP.SE (“pp” stands for “private person”). Local presence was required, i.e. only Swedish individuals, firms and organizations could get a dot SE domain. In 2003, however, the registration process was liberalized notably and, consequently, the number of dot SE domains has been growing each year.

Currently, anyone can obtain a dot SE name, which gives you the opportunity to get in touch with the Swedish online community even if you do not have a local presence.
