The word “hosting” doesn't describe a single service, but a number of services which provide a variety of functions to a domain address. Having a website and e-mails, for instance, are two individual services though in the general case they come together, so a lot of people think of them as one single service. In fact, each and every domain name has a number of DNS records called A and MX, which show the server that manages each particular service - the former is a numeric IP address, which defines where the site for the domain address is loaded from, while the second one is an alphanumeric string, which shows the server that handles the e-mails for the domain name. As an illustration, an A record can be 123.123.123.123 and an MX record can be mx1.domain.com. Whenever you open a website or send an e-mail, the global DNS servers are contacted to check the name servers that a domain name has and the traffic/message is first directed to that company. If you have custom records on their end, the web browser request or the email will be forwarded to the correct server. The reasoning behind employing separate records is that the two services work with different web protocols and you could have your site hosted by one company and the e-mail messages by another.

Custom MX and A Records in Cloud Website Hosting

If you have a cloud website hosting account with our company and you would like to direct either your site or your e-mails to another service provider, it'll take you literally just 2 mouse clicks to do so. Our Hepsia Control Panel comes with an easy-to-use DNS Records tool, where all your domain names and subdomains are going to be listed alphabetically and you're going to be able to see and modify the A and/or MX records for any of them. If you want to use a different e-mail provider and they ask you to set up more MX records than the default two, it won't take more than a few clicks either to add them. You could also set different latency for these records and the lower the latency, the greater the priority a given MX record will have. The propagation of any record that you modify or set up will not take more than several hours and if necessary, you'll also be able to set the so-called Time-To-Live value, which indicates how long a record will remain active after it is changed or deleted.

Custom MX and A Records in Semi-dedicated Hosting

If you buy a semi-dedicated server plan from us, you're going to be able to view and change the A and MX records for each of the domain addresses or subdomains you host within the account. The Hepsia CP, which you will get to control the account, offers an innovative, albeit easy-to-use tool where all hosts will be listed in alphabetical order and you're going to be able to edit their records with no more than several mouse clicks. If you have to create a new record, it's going to be equally easy - choose the domain/subdomain, enter the IP address or mail server record and you will be ready. You will also be able to set different priority for the MX records you create in case you choose to use a third-party e-mail provider and they ask you to create additional records aside from the two standard ones. If you encounter any troubles, you will find a comprehensive Help section with videos where you can see first-hand how to setup or change any record.
